Across Europe, over 80 million people live below the poverty line.
Many people struggle to even feed their families and yet every supermarket in Europe throws away an average of more than 40kg of unsold food every day!
They are throwing away edible food that is being wasted on a huge scale Instead of throwing away the food, they should instead give it to the needy as they would appreciate it more and it would be of help to them. They would benefit from the unsold food rather than it being a waste. All supermarket should instead give it to charity of their choice.
The European Commission is preparing a new “circular economy strategy” that will include how Europe should deal with food waste. It is a fantastic opportunity to make our voices heard on this issue.
A lot of people around the world are starving and in need of food. Why waste food when it can be given to people who need it. We should help those people and let them benefit from the edible food being thrown out. In the long run it will help/save a lot of people.
